NO LONGER YOURSELF
I experienced my first episode of psychosis after a hard period with my mum, who has her own mental health challenges. Inside the episode, the coordinates of my world spun and changed, and the line dividing me from my mum became suddenly sharper. A new self emerged. I wanted to share how that felt.
From Satellite - Mental illness can come in and out of lives, unannounced or with a loud voice, and with it bring cycles of big feelings in families. Big feelings – worry, rage, fear - that can be really hard to find words to describe if it is your parent who is living with the mental illness. We think these words can be found and heard, in a whole range of ways.
Listening to the stories of others like these can sometimes remind you of parts of your own life that were or are sad or difficult. Life might feel difficult right now. If reading or watching anything on this site has raised any issues or feelings for you, we encourage you to reach out to a family member or friend to talk to, or to call one of the free 24 hour support lines listed below.
